Problem

Sometimes it’s hard to find the right product to cure whatever turf or plant problem that troubles your landscape. Even more troubling is deciding which product from the 100’s of options available will do the best job for you. Many products are similar or even identical; liken it to choosing cold medicine. There are name brands, generics, sizes, colors, flavors and applications from preventative to curative, or a sniffle and bedridden. With so many choices it can be overwhelming and exhausting. Sometimes I would rather deal with my cold and walk out of the pharmacy.

Petesturf@blogspot.com What? How can that help me? Well, I have used many of the products out there, and have distributed many of these as well. During this process I have received a lot of feedback, both customer and personal. I’ve done your homework for you and this time it’s not cheating. I’ve fried my lawn, killed my plants replanted and done it all again, but in the process I’ve found a plethora of products that work. I’ve put together a list with a brief description of what these products are good for and how to use them. This is my FAQS page. Once you decide which product is right for you, READ THE LABEL! Granular fertilizers

15-15-15 W/ 4% IRON
Triple 15 as the analysis describes offers balanced NPK nutrition, with 4% iron, and 2% sulfur. Triple 15 can be used year round at 6-8 week intervals at 5-6lbs. per 1000 sq. feet. A 50 pound bag covers 8,000-10,000 sq. feet of turf. Remove material from sidewalks and pool decks to avoid staining, and water immediately after application. Triple 15 can also be used in combination with either a liquid or granular pre-emergent.

AMMONIUM SULFATE 21-0-0
Ammonium sulfate 21-0-0 is a fast acting source of nitrogen with 24% sulfur to be used wherever immediate growth and color is needed. Ammonium Sulfate is an acidifying granular nitrogen fertilizer and is an excellent choice for alkaline Western soils. Apply at 5-6lbs. per 1000 sq. feet. A 50 pound bag covers 8,000-10,000 sq. feet of turf. Apply water immediately after application. Ammonium sulfate can also be used in combination with either a liquid or granular pre-emergent.

TURF ROYALE® 21-7-14
Turf Royale 21-7-14 is a clean consistent homogenous fertilizer with split nitrogen. 9.9% nitrate to provide a quick green up even in cool weather, and 11.1% ammoniacal nitrogen for a sustained 6-8 week feeding. Apply at 5-6 lbs. per 1000 sq. feet for a coverage rate of 8,000 to 10,000 sq. feet of turf. Apply water immediately after application. Turf Royale can also be used in combination with either a liquid or granular pre-emergent.

LARGO VERDE® 24-4-8 w/3.5% IRON
Largo Verde 24-4-8 w/3.5% iron is an 85% methylene chain slow release fertilizer. Largo Verde is safe in summer temperatures, delivering a quick green up, with consistent growth through 10-12 weeks. Apply at 5-6lbs. per 1000 sq. feet. A 50 pound bag covers 8,000-10,000 sq. feet of turf. Apply water immediately after application. Largo Verde can also be used in combination with either a liquid or granular pre-emergent.

32-3-8 60% SCU
32-3-8 60% Poly coated sulfur coated urea (SCU) is a high nitrogen slow release fertilizer safe for warm temperatures. 32-3-8 60% SCU is great for a quick spring green up providing 10-12 week feeding. Apply at 5-6lbs. per 1000 sq. feet. A 50 pound bag covers 8,000-10,000 sq. feet of turf. Apply water immediately after application. Largo Verde can also be used in combination with either a liquid or granular pre-emergent.

Gro-Power Plus®
Gro-Power Plus is designed for soil conditions that are impossible, such as highly-compacted, hard pan areas (clay, adobe, caliche soils) or areas that have extremely high levels of salt (EC), sodium boron or pH problems. Gro-power plus has a 1% soil penetrant in addition to a 70% humus base with 15% humic acid. Top dress with Gro-Power every 4 months with 25 lbs per 1000 sq. feet. A 50lb. bag covers 2000 sq. feet Gro-power is an easy to use low burn risk fertilizer making it great for feeding shrubs and flower beds. Add Gro-power as a pre-plant fertilizer to stimulate rapid root development in plants, seeds, or sod.

IRON 10®5-0-0
IRON 10, while designed for use on all turfs and ornamentals, is particularly good for applications on fairways, roughs, and other large areas. The unique blend of nitrogen, iron, and humate’s has been formulated to surpass traditional fertilizers in producing both rapid green-up and long-lasting color, without a rapid growth surge. It’s essential humic, fulvic, and amino acids have been shown to yield more soil activity, resulting in the ongoing benefit of healthier roots and plants. Apply at 10-15 lbs. per 1000 sq. feet. A 50 pound bag covers 3,000-5,000 sq. feet of turf. Apply water immediately after application. Iron 10 can also be used in combination with either a liquid or granular pre-emergent.

Turf Supreme® 16-6-8 W/.81% Trimec
Turf Supreme® 16-6-8 W/.81% Trimec is an all season fertilizer with Trimec post emergent weed control. Use Turf supreme W/ Trimec to control of a wide variety of weeds including dandelions, spurge, henbit, and clover commonly found in turf grass. Lawn should be mowed two days before application, and watered thoroughly one day before application. Leaf of the target weed must be wet when fertilizer with Trimec is applied. Do not water or mow for two days after application. Apply at a 4lb. per 1000 sq. feet of turf.

16-8-8 W/.4% Barricade
16-8-8 W/.4% Barricade is an all season fertilizer with barricade pre-emergent weed control. Use 16-8-8 W/.4% Barricade to control weed grasses and broadleaf weeds in all established turf grasses. Apply before seed germination begins, and water immediately. Use at a rate of 4lbs. per 1000 sq. feet. A 50lb. bag covers approximately 12,500 sq. feet of turf. Do not use near fruit or nut bearing crops.

Water soluble fertilizer

Urea 46-0-0
Feed grade Urea 46-0-0 is easily dissolved in water, with minimal agitation. Spray solution at 1lb per 1,000 sq. feet Feed grade urea 46-0-0 is compatible with all other forms of water soluble nutrients, post -emergent’s, pre-emergent’s and Choice weather master pH buffer.

Feature WS® 6-0-0
A fully chelated micronutrient package designed to be stable with amine-based herbicides and fertilizers. It is most effective when turf is growing rapidly and least effective when turf is dormant or suffering from stress. Feature WS is ideal for maintenance of turf such as golf courses and athletic fields. Feature WS 6-0-0 with 10% Iron maintains color without growth spikes, while adding helpful and beneficial micro nutrients to aid in photosynthesis and soil structure. Feature WS is compatible with pre and post emergent’s and is a great supplemental micro nutrient package at 3-6lbs. per acre.



Pre-emergent

Barricade .48% on DG Pro
Barricade .48% is a granular pre-emergence herbicide that provides residual control of many grass and broadleaf weeds in established turf grasses (excluding golf course putting greens), lawns, sod nurser¬ies, and landscape ornamentals. Apply at 3-6lbs. per 1000 sq. feet Barricade pre-emergent lasts an average of 3 months. Do not apply near fruits or vegetables. Precipitation of ½ inch is necessary to ensure maximum effectiveness of Barricade .48%.

Pendulum AquaCap®
Pendulum AquaCap is a low odor alternative to straight pendimethalin with less stain potential. Pendulum AquaCap herbicide can be incorporated into landscape and grounds maintenance programs to provide extended pre-emergence control of most annual grasses and certain broadleaf weeds. Pendulum AquaCap can be applied as general ground maintenance in parking lots, vacant lots, gravel beds, mulch beds, golf courses, turf, and landscape ornamental beds. Use at a rate of 2.5oz. Per gallon. Suggested rate will cover 1000 sq. feet with the use of properly calibrated spray equipment. Liquid Pendulum AquaCap is compatible with other broad leaf herbicides and pH buffers.



Post- Emergent


Weedar 64® 2, 4-D
Weedar 64 is simply 2,4-D. It’s as simple as that. Weedar 64 is a cost effective approach to broadleaf weed control in turf grass. Weedar 64 is compatible with other herbicides, though a jar test is recommended. Compatibility with liquid fertilizers, pre-emergent’s, and pH buffers makes Weedar 64 an excellent choice for all in one maintenance schedules. Use Weedar 64 at 2.5oz. Per gallon. Weedar 64 is not recommended for use when temperatures exceed 85 °Fahrenheit, in windy conditions, when it’s humid or there is a potential for rain.

Mec Amine-D®
Mec Amine-D, three way broad leaf weed control. Very similar in function to Weedar 64, Mec Amine-D controls a wide variety of broadleaf weeds. Mec Amine-D is compatible with other herbicides, though a jar test is recommended. Compatibility with liquid fertilizers, pre-emergent’s, and pH buffers makes Mec Amine-D an excellent choice for all in one maintenance schedules. Use Mec Amine D at 2.5oz. Per gallon of water. Mec Amine-D is not recommended for use when temperatures exceed 85 °Fahrenheit, in windy conditions, when it’s humid or there is a potential for rain.

Ranger Pro®
Ranger Pro is a non-selective herbicide from the makers of Roundup pro. Ranger Pro contains a quality surfactant that increases the effectiveness of the active 41% glyphosate. Use Ranger Pro to control broadleaf weeds, grasses and some woody plants and shrubs. Use Ranger Pro @ 1.5oz-2.5oz. Per gallon of water. Ranger Pro is compatible with pre-emergent’s, other post emergent’s and pH buffers. Avoid spraying in windy or humid conditions or when there is a potential for rain within 24 hours. Ranger pro is most effective in the morning when plants are actively feeding.

Quick Pro®
Quick Pro is a water soluble non-selective herbicide from the makers of Roundup pro. Quick Pro contains a quality surfactant that increases the effectiveness of the active 73.3% glyphosate, and 2.9% diquat dibromide. Use Quick Pro to control broadleaf weeds, grasses and some woody plants and shrubs. Mix Quick Pro @ 1.5oz. Per gallon of water, and let Quick Pro, completely dissolve. Quick Pro is compatible with pre-emergent, other post emergent’s and pH buffers. Avoid spraying in windy or humid conditions or when there is a potential for rain within 24 hours. Quick pro is most effective in the morning when plants are actively feeding.

Choice Weather Master

Choice Weather Master is designed to balance pH in water. Add 1/3 to 2/3oz. per gallon to water before mixing water soluble fertilizer, pre emergent, or post emergent. The addition of Choice Weather Master reduces pH in the water allowing fertilizers and chemicals to perform as they are intended.

Nutra-sol

Nutra-Sol spray equipment cleaner used to clean pesticide/herbicide residue out of spray tanks, pumps and hoses. It reduces risk of contamination when changing from one chemical to the next. It removes scale, rust and dirt reduces strainer clogging and minimizes nozzle wear. Be extra careful when flushing 2,4-D based products as they tend to accumulate heavily in rubber materials. Nutra-sol is recommended for proper maintenance of spray equipment even when separate tanks are used. Flushing your spray rig after each use or before storage can increase the life of your equipment, and save you money.


EZ-Flo Products

Organic Critter Control
Organic critter control liquid pest repellant helps to repel those pesky "critters" that destroy or damage our landscape plantings. Critter Control is not a poison that will kill animals; it simply makes the environment unpleasant in which to feed. EZ-Organic Critter Control gives you the power to repel and limit critters that you believe are harmful to your property and your wallet. This organic formula is an effective way to drive away deer, gophers, rabbits, moles/voles, mice/rats and coots as well as other landscape pests. Apply Critter Control directly onto your landscape plantings. This product can be applied directly by spraying it onto the leaves of the plant or with any spray irrigation system equipped with an EZ-FLO dispenser. This product can be combined with fertilizers or applied by itself. Suggested coverage rate is 1 pint per 10,000 sq. feet when applied with an EZ-FLO dispenser.

Mega Green

Mega Green organic lawn and garden fertilizer is made from a unique process using farm-raised catfish to produce a non-burning, natural fertilizer. It feeds the whole plant, providing fast and long lasting greening. Our organic catfish protein contains the 3 primary plant nutrients: Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potash. Harmony is exceptionally effective in turf fertigation systems; hose end sprayers and conventional spray systems. It contains 3 forms of nitrogen, and 3 forms of phosphate to meet a full range of nutrient needs throughout the growing season. Use on ornamentals and turf 4-8 oz. per sq. feet 1000 every 4-6 weeks up to 12 oz. to prevent chlorosis. 6-2-6 liquid is available in 1 and 2.5 gallon containers. Compatible with Turf Pro, Organic Critter Control and Great 8, 6-2-6 liquid is a valuable addition to the list of products used with the EZ- Flo fertilizing system.

18-3-4 liquid
18-3-4 liquid fertilizer with 2% humic acid can be applied year round through the EZ-Flo fertilizing system, 18-3-4 will keep your warm and cool season grasses green without excessive growth. Use on ornamentals and turf 4-8 oz. per 1000 sq. ft. every 4-6 weeks Up to 12 oz. to prevent chlorosis. Watering in is recommended for professional and home/garden use. 18-3-4 is available in 1 and 2.5 gallon containers. 18-3-4 liquid fertilizer is compatible with Turf Pro, Organic Critter Control and Great 8. 18-3-4 liquid is a valuable addition to the list of products used with the EZ- Flo fertilizing system.

Great 8 1-0-0
Great 8 1-0-0 is an unsurpassed liquid product with a blend of Humic Acid and Norwegian Sea Kelp Extract. This all natural, all purpose, and highly concentrated liquid is ideal for use on all soils and plants under all conditions. Norwegian Sea Kelp adds Plant growth regulators to promote plant cell division and rapid plant growth. Apply at a monthly rate of 4-8 oz. per 1000 sq. feet.

Turf pro w/Iron
Turf Pro w/Iron was developed for soils needing more plant ready iron available and can be applied through EZ-Flo fertigation systems, or as a foliar spray. Turf Pro w/Iron is cold water processed in order to retain all the unique and valuable naturally occurring soil biology plus all 73 plant available trace elements. Turf Pro w/Iron contains a full spectrum of high quality humic materials such as humic, fulvic and ulmic acids plus organic carbon and lignin. Chelated iron is added to provide additional boost. Turf Pro w/Iron is 100% organic – meeting USDA standards for organic use and is one of our many products that have earned the US EPA “Design for the Environment” seal.

Liquid Gypsum
Liquid Gypsum is a calcium based soil conditioner especially suited for clay soils and drought defense. Liquid Gypsum enhances the soil’s ability to absorb and retain water. The products are not fertilizers but soil conditioners and should be part of any landscape management plan. Distribute through the EZ-Flo fertilizing system at the highest rate possible equally distributing amongst all irrigation zones. After application of Liquid Gypsum is complete, flush the entire irrigation system to ensure all Liquid Gypsum is removed from the tank and irrigation lines. Liquid Gypsum is not compatible with fertilizer or other soil conditioners and should be distributed separately from all other supplements.
